This process is basically the spraying of molten material onto a surface to provide a coating. Material in powder form is melted in a flame (oxy-acetylene or hydrogen most common) to form a fine spray. When the spray contacts the prepared surface of a substrate material, the fine molten droplets rapidly solidify forming a coating.

Flame spray, also known as oxy/acetylone combustion spray is the original thermal spray technique developed nearly 90 years ago. It uses the basic principles of a welding torch with the addition of a high velocity air stream to propel molten particles onto the substrate.

  • Coating thickness : 0.5 - 2.0 mm for ferrous material, 0.5 - 5.0 mm for nonferrous material and 0.4 - 0.8 mm for ceramic.
  • Particle's velocity : up to 50 m / sec
  • Deposition rate : 1 - 6 kg/hour
  • Hardness : 82 Rb - 36 Rc for ferrous material, 32 Rh - 25 Rc for nonferrous material and 42 - 66 Rc for ceramic.
  • Bond strength : 14 - 21 MPa for ferrous material, 7 - 34 MPa for nonferrous material and 14 - 34 MPa for ceramic.
  • Density : 85 - 92 % of equivalent wrought material for ferrous and non ferrous material and 90 - 97 % of equivalent wrought material for ceramic
  • Material : all kind of metal materials (such as Copper, Aluminium, Chrome Steel, etc) and non metal materials (such as Polymer, Nylon, Teflon, Ceramic, etc)
